Bush threatens Syria and Iran: Neocons ecstatic
I don’t think this is what the Iraq Study Group had in mind when it strongly suggested talking to Syria and Iran.
The threat gets pretty specific. Bush has ordered a carrier strike force to the region, ostensibly to attack Iran or to support Israel while it attacks Iran with nuclear bunker busters as reported in Britain’s Sunday Times
The LA times has an oped already advocating an Israel nuclear attack on Iran.
Given the evident failure of American diplomacy and U.N. sanctions, Israel has two basic choices. It can sit and wait, hoping the Iranians do not drop a bomb on Tel Aviv; or it can preemptively attack, hoping to destroy, or at least retard, the Iranians’ nuclear capacity.
Then Bush will be providing patriot air defense systems to our friends in the region and finally he will be working with “others” to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Sounds like a plan.
And according to CNN’s John King, the neocons are wondering what took so long. The only supporters of this escalation are the neocons and the Israel lobby, plus John McCain, the president, his wife and their dog. The neocons are, once again, the architects of the plan, as they were with the original invasion.
