Two horror stories: Virginia Tech and Iraq

Keith Olbermann Addressed an issue I have been thinking about for the past few days. He juxtaposed the horror of the Virginia Tech massacre where 32 people were killed plus the murderer, and the fact that the same number of American soldiers have died in Iraq over the past ten days. Response however, differs profoundly.

What is difficult to understand is why there not an equal outrage about young Americans being slaughtered in Iraq. I also don’t understand, though to a lesser extent due mostly to identification and nationality, why there is close to zero sympathy here for innocent civilian victims of the violence in Iraq; violence that we unleashed.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

Just today over 400 people were killed by a series of bombs in Iraq. Over 170 of them were in Baghdad. As the entire United States grieves for the senseless and brutal murder of 32 students and faculty at Virginia Tech, I can’t help but wonder how the people in iraq are coping and grieving.

CNN: Over 400 killed today in Iraq
